John Brandt and George Taninecz, principals of The MPI Group, will be in Washington to provide a congressional briefing about the needs of manufacturers. Scheduled for Dec. 2 by the American Small Manufacturers Coalition (ASMC) and its regional Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) members, the briefing focused on results of the most recent Next Generation Manufacturing Study, released in fall 2011. The purpose of the briefing was to engage congressional staff in a broader conversation about the U.S. manufacturing environment.
The 2011 Next Generation Manufacturing (NGM) Study was developed to identify performances and practices in place among U.S. manufacturers, to determine how much progress U.S. manufacturers have made in implementing Next Generation strategies, to measure manufacturers’ progress toward achieving world-class status for each of the Next Generation strategies, and to assess manufacturers’ abilities to compete into their next generation.
The NGM Study was conducted by the Manufacturing Performance Institute (MPI) with the ASMC, an association of manufacturing extension centers that work to improve the innovation and productivity of America’s manufacturing community.
Next Generation strategies identified in the study are: Customer-focused innovation; Engaged people/human-capital acquisition, development, and retention; Superior processes/improvement focus; Supply-chain management and collaboration; Sustainability; and Global engagement.
